Graham McRae and London insurance broker John Heynes, mid-1972, bought out Bridgeland and started McRae Cars Ltd. in Poole, Dorset. The 1972 Leda LT27 became the McRae GM1.

The well engineered McRae, especially Graham's prototype 001, was the top car of 1972 and one of the best in 1973, but the GM2 design lost the momentum and the McRae marque faded.
