Eisenacher Motorenwerk (EMW)
After the Soviets captured Eastern Germany, the BMW plant in town of Eisenach continued producing cars and motorcycles under the BMW brand, but due to a lawsuit in 1952 they changed the name to EMW or Eisenacher Motorenwerk. Later the automotive division of EMW became VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach making the Wartburg.

EMWs, are distinguished by a red-and-white roundel as apposed to the blue-and white version that defines the Munich-based BMW. The EMW 327/3 is similar to the 327 BMW from Munich that dates back to 1939.

Most EMWs were for high Soviet government officials. But some were offered for sale in Belgium to raise cash for the German Republic.

It is estimated that only152 EMW 327/3s were produced between 1954 and 1955. The 1954 EMW 327/3 came with a 1,971-cc inline six-cylinder engine, with 57 hp at 3,750 rpm with two Solex 32 carburetors, and a four-speed manual gearbox. First and second gears are freewheeling, hence no engine braking. Drums on all four wheels perform braking. The body is hammered metal mounted on a wooden frame.
