Rallye Sunseeker 2013

It was all changed for this years Rallye Sunseeker. The usual February start had been moved to October. For the past two years the Rallye Sunseeker was the opening of the MSA British Rally. This year moving the rally to October means that it was the final round of the MSA British Rally Championship and, for the first time the Final of the Mintex British Historic Rally Championship.

Other changes included where the Saturday`s Champagne finish would take place. This had been moved to Poole Quay, where the rally had see its Ceremonial start. With the rally HQ also being moved to the RNLI Collage building and, Poole Pottery supplying the winners trophy's.

Poole may have been the host town, but the stages were in the surrounding forests of Dorset, including the grounds of Somerley Park and House grounds. Most of the stage are classed as grave, but the British weather had been wet leading up to the day, so many were muddy or water logged with large puddles, different to when the rally was held at the start of the year with much colder weather and harder ground. The stages had also been changed this year, with a more compact route with the idea to minimise road mileage. Somerley Park hosts three reconfigured from previous years stages and also the finish. Other stages were also ran on more than once and with simplified spectator parking, one pass now accessed all three spectator venues. This gave rally fans a greater chance to view more stages.

It may have been all change this year, but with these in place and with the rally held very successfully. I believe that the Rallye Sunseeker has a very successful future on the Rally Championship calendar.
