Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, 2014 Prologue

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2014 Maserati, will take center stage at this years event and make note of the first 100 years of Maserati cars. Maserati started in Bologna, Italy, in December 1914 by Alfieri Maserati with two of his brothers, Ettore and Ernesto. Bindo, and Mario joining on later. The first Maserati was produced in 1926, the Tipo 26 race car which won the 1926 Targa Florio. Maserati recorded the only wins by an Italian manufacturer at the Indianapolis 500 and the world championship in 1957 with Juan Manuel Fangio at the helm of a 250F.

Other marques slated for the lawn are; Ruxtons, Tatras, postwar Rolls-Royce Phantoms, and the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas, antique steamers and automobiles with the elegant coachwork of Fernandez et Darrin.

Ruxton: An innovative front-drive vehicle produced at the start of the Great Depression. Of the estimated 96 cars manufactured, just 17 working examples remain. A record number of them are scheduled for this 2014 Pebble Beach Concours.

A large number of Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas, a car that ruled the track from 1957 through 1960, and now some of the most desired collector cars, will be on display before participating on a reunion rally.

Competing with early electric and gasoline cars, were steam power cars. The steam technology was used to power cars well into the 1920s. Several steam pioneers will be featured.

Another interesting automobile on the program is the Tatra and one of the oldest auto manufacturers in the world. This early Czechoslovakian marque used air-cooled engines, a rigid backbone chassis and independent suspension and built the world's first truly aerodynamic production car, the Type 77.
