Patrick Wheeler Travels to Paris Retromobile
Patrick Wheeler shares his experiences on his Travels to the 2015 Paris Retromobile Car Show
...a few pictures for you (a lotta car content, some Paris, proceed at your own inclination ...)
Following the snowplow/salt truck over the Ardennes ... on a very early morning with a fullish moon ... early start means you get into Paris before the traffic gets too bad, maybe if the snow had not fallen quite so heavily ...
Once in the city, well, am here for a special reason, a 'lads' event of the highest order ...
All the rubber that can be trucked in ... to the Paris Retromobile (Classic car show to you and I) ...
Damn! Had my eye on a 'new-to-me' Bugatti, so many are already sold, one is red is still available, but a Bugatti, well, it has to be blue ...
Lady-photog getting the upskirt shots
I like the pilot's view today for some reason, ok by me, I'll sit here a bit ... a bit 'tatty' might be used to describe, but I prefer 'pre-worn' ...
Boys just being ...
Ever notice, when the French wish to tell the world what NOT to do, they use English ...
My traveling partner's old nemesis, once upon a time in California, we had a '68 Alpine, awful car, awfully cute, on a classic british car run she decided to go head to head with a Kaiser Psych doctor with his little green Elan ... we had no chance, with the sound of a sewing machine the doc and his elan left us at Pigeon Point lighthouse and was seemingly in Santa Cruz before we got out of the parking lot ...
Boys with cameras, but why a Fuchs rim in a Bugatti 'junk heap' display?
Too big to park in the city ... but such a sweet ride, check the curlicue in the bumper ..
Oh my yes, all?, please?? ... even the one in not-blue, I'll take it ...
Dino mania ... seeing lots and lots of Ferrari Dinos for some reason ... and a lot in yellow ...
Yum yum yellow, after the sharks favorite colour on wetsuits ... or so we used to say in aeons past when I wore a wet suit now and again ... "...a number of shark species tend to be attracted to any high-contrast color, such as yellow, orange, or red, as these are easier for the shark to see, especially in murky water or up against a bright surface." Lesson here, not to take your Dino swimming in shark infested waters
Chew on that glasses stem mister! Not a Dino, nice yellow bathtub instead ... no sharks ...
Citroen DS getting a lotta love, finally! (good burgundy colour, reminds me of a former car it might be better forgetting ...)
Faded glory yum yum yellow dino?
Ok ... lotta pre-war love going on, and many marques hve never heard of before, you ever hear of a 'Tracta'?? me either ... but our buddy wiki has
Love the old yellow tinted bulbs, and yes, this is one heck of a front differential on this front wheel drive pioneer ...
I think they are buying, she likes it!
Is an interesting and eclectic mix of real old, interesting tidbits, a few real race machines like this very last Porsche 906 ever produced, ooch ... race ready, race proofed ... ready for the classics at Le Mans or any other track to be 'driven in anger' again ...
And many other are ... not. Cream puffery abounds ... as the two models enjoying the front seat of the gullwing can attest ...
A Skoda? The manufacturs have brought out a few nice tidbits and I like the spare and stripped down racer offered by Skoda many years ago, not a marque a California boy grew up knowing anything about
Is that intentional?, the P becoming an F and the white oval now reads 'SUFER'? must be an old car fan ...
After 'dinner' from Gerard Mulot, a walk in the arts district between the seine and saint germain ... Paris Atmospherics Bureau never fails to delight ... just leaning against the rail, not even locked up, it would fit in the back of the german rolling refrigerator ... stop those bad thoughts ... what are the u2 lyrics 'every time she passes by wild thoughts escape' ?? ...
Artsy partsy ... but something about the whimsy of the horse/donkey tangled in a ladder trying to reach the apple ...
Heh, somehow apropos of the day and old car dashboards, and a counterpoint ... maybe this is why we like fiddling with old cars as well as ... stop that thought too...!
Atmospherics again, nice dyane ... just parked ... Paris Atmospherics Bureau again, you really gonna to believe it is 'just parked' in this neighborhood?
Well, yes actually ... a last 'pilots view', old car, old dog, old street, a quick chat with the owner as he pops out of a close by shop ... and so, to home and there to bed ..
