Glöckler was a motorcycle and automotive dealer in Frankfurt am Main after the First World War selling NSU and BMW and later vehicles from Hanomag. Shortly before the Second World War, Glöckler became a KdF-Wagen dealer. After the war, Glöckler became one of the first dealers for Volkswagen and in 1950, the Frankfurt dealer for Porsche.

In 1948 Walter Glöckler built his first racing sports car. By 1954, 5 or 6 racecars were made, the last was a coupe.The cars were designed and built in Glöcklers workshops in Frankfurt.

The Glöcklers were successful racecars using Porsche engines. They soon caught the attention of Porsche, who was then only racing their road cars. With racing assistance to Glöckler from the Porsche factory they became know as Porsche/Glöcklers.

Porsche realizing that they needed a specialized racing design for their racing program, adapted the mid-engine,lightweight-open-toped Spyder design, which Glöckler was using so successfully. Hence the Glöckler Spyder was the forerunner to the Porsche Type 550

Glöckler Coupe 1954
This is said to be the last Glöckler made in 1954 and was built to run in the Mille Miglia, however it was not finished in time. The car was then run in the long-distance drive Liège-Rome-Liège with Helmet Glöckler driving.

The Car is built upon a 356 Porsche chassis. The engine is one of the first 1.5-liter Fuhrmann Carrera engines and possibly the oldest one in existence.
