The MONTEREY CAR WEEK.

The current explosion of hyper cars and over the top exotic new cars, is the theme of the EXOTICS ON CANNERY ROW!

In the beginning, The MONTEREY CAR weekend was all about historic old racecars and The Concours was about the most exotic cars of the past.

New and Fresh is the billing at Cannery Row. This unique event is all about the Super, Hyper and Exotic Car phenomenon. At the historic Cannery Row of Monterey, California, the wild assemblage of outrageous hyper cars create a must see spectacle.

This year the event was moved from Friday to Saturday and as it is a free event for the spectators and given that most events in the area have rather large price tags for the day passes the crowed draw was spectacular. The problem with 'HOT' exotic cars and young people is the NOISE! Most care events have sound restrictions on them, even at the race tracks. But this event seems to have some secret which allows it to get away with having loud cars, loud sound systems and loud music.

'HOT' exotic cars and young people can also be a source of speed demonstrations; but all the over hyped cars in the show and on the streets which are made to do and are capable of speeds of 100 to 200+ MPH are barely able to exceed more that 3MPH. The Traffic was total grid locked. The Cannery Row area has only 2 exit points and both and all side streets were at stop and go capacity.

I did manage to see some of the more exotic machinery that, even in car centric California are rare to find. There were 4 examples from Koenigsegg; 2 from RIMAC; and of course 4 Bugatti. Was the overall experience worth the effort??... Yes and no is the safe answer. The cars were the stars of the show and they were spectacular. But overall, too much maybe just too much. I think you can have my spot in the crowd next year.
